Hershey's corporation has made a move to be more inclusive in the naming of one of their iconic candy bars. Since 1899, the Hershey's bar with crushed peanuts has been known as "Mr. Goodbar" the connotation seems reminiscent of a time when a straight white male was a good name for a candy bar. However Hershey's admits that they have since found the name to be not only mysoginistic, but also rather non-inclusive.
Ideas came about to change it a less gender-specific name, however Hershey's decided against that due to the "Mr" apparently being the most iconic part of the candy bar's namesake. As a concession, Hershey's has decided to go with "Mr. Gaybar" as the new name. Packaging will still keep its iconic consistency, while also being more inclusive to the LGBTQ community.
"While our product seeks to be more inclusive, we sincerely hope this name change does not result in any sort of 'fudge packer' jokes as we remind folks that our candy bar is made of fine Hershey's milk chocolate and is absent of any fudge." remarked CEO Michele Buck.
